Description
8 Channel Analog to CAN converter module.
Electrical and Power:
The Analog to CAN converter module is powered by the 12V system on the vehicle
Internal regulator takes the 12V input and outputs 5V on each of the channels to power your sensors (1.5A Max)
Inputs are 0-5V range, standard for Automotive, Motorsports, and Industrial applications.
10-Bit Analog to Digital Converter, meaning the chip inside reads the input voltage in 1024 steps, resulting in a minimum measurement increment is 0.005 volts. This works out at just under 0.1%, so for 100mm suspension travel for example, the resolution would be 0.097mm. At this resolution, the accuracy of the signal is determined by noise in the electrical system and temperature of the sensors rather than the capability of the measurement electronics.
Housing:
CNC Machined 6000 series Aluminium housings.
M4x0,7 mount holes on both sides to mount on brackets or to panels in the vehicle
The housings can be custom machined to your specs with your own mounting holes/flanges/brackets etc. Custom machining will add to the cost and lead time as it will involve CAD design, CAM Programming, and potentially larger raw stock to machine from depending on the mods. I am happy to help – please drop me a message and we can discuss your customisation and design a solution that works together.
Housings could also be 3D Printed at a lower cost, but this has implications on thermal performance so please get in touch to discuss, it depends what sensors you need to run. If the 5V regulator over-heats, it has internal temperature protection but the device will turn off so the readings will drop to zero and come back and drop again as the regulator overheats, shuts down, cools off, and turns on again.
Connectors:
Analog to CAN converter modules can be supplied with any connectors such as:
Deutsch DTM,
ST JWPF Series
Binder 712/719 to suit AiM sensors
Deutsch Autosport
Or any other connector you need if I can source it! Please get in touch to discuss your customisation.
Similarly harness lengths can be made to measure or made with different stub lengths for every channel to aid in packaging the units on your vehicle.
CAN Bus Protocol:
The standard firmware operates on a 500kb/s bus speed, and outputs Big Endian format on the following channels:
id 0x50 bit 0 and bit 1 = Analog Channel 1
id 0x50 bit 2 and bit 3 = Analog Channel 2
id 0x50 bit 4 and bit 5 = Analog Channel 3
id 0x50 bit 4 and bit 5 = Analog Channel 4
id 0x51 bit 0 and bit 1 = Analog Channel 5
id 0x51 bit 2 and bit 3 = Analog Channel 6
id 0x51 bit 4 and bit 5 = Analog Channel 7
id 0x51 bit 4 and bit 5 = Analog Channel 8
If you need to change the message ids, structure or bus speed etc please drop me a message and I can flash custom firmware before shipping.
I can also supply a separate module to allow you to flash custom firmware onto the board and change your own message IDs and bit structure.
If you are logging to an AiM dash, the CAN driver instructions are here: https://www.aimsports.com/download/software/doc/CAN_Protocol_ECU_CAN_Builder_102_eng.pdf
I can also send you a .dbc file for the CAN bus configuration.
